{"id":14756,"date":"2022-11-25T09:47:49","date_gmt":"2022-11-25T09:47:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/insider.fairwayfoodservice.com\/?post_type=recipe&#038;p=14756"},"modified":"2023-09-07T16:54:51","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T15:54:51","slug":"currywurst-chips-germany","status":"publish","type":"recipe","link":"https:\/\/insider.thewholesalegroup.co.uk\/recipe\/currywurst-chips-germany\/","title":{"rendered":"Currywurst &#038; Chips (Germany)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients: Serves 6<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>1 tablespoon olive oil<\/li><li>1 chopped yellow onion<\/li><li>1 small clove garlic, finely chopped<\/li><li>1 1\/2 tbsp quality curry powder<\/li><li>1 tsp quality sweet paprika<\/li><li>1\/8 tsp ground cloves<\/li><li>1\/8 tsp ground cinnamon<\/li><li>130g ketchup<\/li><li>1 tbsp tomato paste<\/li><li>5 tbsp vegetable or chicken broth<\/li><li>1 tbsp apple cider vinegar<\/li><li>1 tbsp honey<\/li><li>1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce<\/li><li>1 tsp sugar<\/li><li>1\/4 tsp yellow mustard<\/li><li>1\/2 tsp salt<\/li><li>1\/8 tsp freshly ground black pepper<\/li><li>6 German bratwursts, bockwurst, rotwurst or weisswurst<\/li><li>Extra curry powder for sprinkling<\/li><li>French fries or crispy bread rolls (Br\u00f6tchen) for serving<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:44px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Heat some oil in a small saucepan and cook the onions, until soft.<\/li><li>Add the garlic and cook for another minute.<\/li><li>Add the curry powder, paprika, cloves and cinnamon and cook out for 20-30 seconds.<\/li><li>Add all the remaining ingredients and bring to a simmer.<\/li><li>Reduce the heat to medium, cover and simmer for 15 minutes &#8211; stirring occasionally.<\/li><li>Blend to make a smooth sauce &#8211; allow to cool if needed.<\/li><li>You can use this straight away but it is better left in the fridge overnight, to allow the flavours to really come out.<\/li><li>For the sausages, if they aren\u2019t pre-cooked, poach them first in simmering water, then grill \/ pan fry them &#8211; you want to create a thick, crispy outer crust.<\/li><li>Serve the cooked wursts sliced vertically into chunks, and drizzle with the sauce, then sprinkle some curry powder on top.<\/li><li>Serve alongside fries and if desired a bread roll &#8211; Br\u00f6tchen.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Fifa World Cup 2022 is almost upon us, and soon, pubs will be full with hopefully Brits, hungry for more than just football.
