{"id":14677,"date":"2022-11-16T16:20:58","date_gmt":"2022-11-16T16:20:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/insider.fairwayfoodservice.com\/?post_type=recipe&#038;p=14677"},"modified":"2023-09-07T18:45:53","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T17:45:53","slug":"falafel-pita","status":"publish","type":"recipe","link":"https:\/\/insider.thewholesalegroup.co.uk\/recipe\/falafel-pita\/","title":{"rendered":"Falafel Pita"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients: Makes 25 falafel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>1 warm, toasted pita<\/li><li>\u00bd large beef tomato<\/li><li>Handful of salad leaves<\/li><li>1 tbsp of <a href=\"https:\/\/minimalistbaker.com\/6-ingredient-vegan-tzatziki\/\">vegan tzatziki<\/a> (make your own using dairy-free yoghurt or mayonnaise)<\/li><li>250 g dried chickpeas (or around 500g of cooked)<\/li><li>1 medium sized onion, roughly chopped<\/li><li>5 garlic cloves, crushed<\/li><li>2 tbsp finely chopped flat leaf parsley<\/li><li>1 tbsp finely chopped coriander<\/li><li>1 tsp ground cumin<\/li><li>1 tsp ground coriander<\/li><li>2 tsp baking powder<\/li><li>Salt to taste<\/li><li>Around 750ml sunflower oil for deep-frying \/ deep fat fryer<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:44px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Rinse the chickpeas twice in running water and soak them in nearly twice the amount of water for at least 8 hours or overnight. They should nearly double in size. After soaking, drain the water and rinse again.<\/li><li>In batches, add the chickpeas to a food processor, along with the chopped onion, garlic, cumin and coriander powder, and pulse until a smooth paste, scraping down the side.<\/li><li>Add the chopped parsley and coriander leaves and blend again &#8211; adjust salt as needed.<\/li><li>Once you have achieved the desired texture for the falafel mixture, transfer them to a bowl, cover with cling film and refrigerate for 2 hours or until ready to cook.<\/li><li>Add the baking powder to the falafel mixture then roll into small, equal balls.<\/li><li>Prepare your fryer. Check the oil is hot enough with a small bit of falafel, then add in the falafel balls in batches of 4-5, and fry for around 4-5 minutes or until golden brown.
